Our day today started out like any other normal day--practicing Read to Self and Work on Writing. Yesterday they did a great job with Read to Someone, but today it didn't seem like they were going to be able to do Read to Someone without getting off task, so they didn't practice that today. Instead, I passed out their veggie treat (courtesy of a grant the school won for this school year) of raw sweet potatoes and ranch. Ever taste that before? I hadn't! And neither had most of my kids. Of the 24 students at school today, 23 of them loved it! I loved it, too. As Lillian described it, "It's like eating a carrot until you're almost done and then it's this sweet juice. It's so yummy!"
This afternoon was heavenly as we reviewed the zero, one, and tens times tables. They began practicing the two, five, and nine times tables. They responded in focused, soft whispers, which made it much easier to hear when they were getting it. We also read A Fine, Fine School, in the Journeys books. We had a great discussion and they practiced giving summaries to partners. In Health we talked about relationships in our lives that help us be better. After reading Thank You, Mr. Falker, by Patricia Polacco, students wrote in their Health packets about people that help them in their lives.
Many students earned brag notes today. It was a great day!
