Beginning of a normal week? Hope so!

We're starting to swing into a regular week schedule this week with me here on a Monday and five days in the week. We'll see how long this regularity can last. :)

A third component of Daily Five was introduced today: Read to Someone.  It was kind of crazy and noisy (on purpose) so that changes could be made tomorrow about behaviors and habits students should develop to make Read to Someone a productive time to be able to read with a partner and become better readers.

In math, students made multiplication posters showing that they knew the fact family for a specific multiplication problem, how to show it with repeated addition, as an array, and with equal groups.  It was a fun activity, especially since students were able to eat some fruit loops when they were finished.

Showing 5x3=15
Towards the end of the day, we began a new week-long project on jobs in the community.  Students wrote down the name of a job that they knew was in the Payson community or that their parents had, along with some ways to get facts about that job.  Interesting jobs were named like FBI agent, navy soldier, and marine, along with jobs that the students probably interact with more, such as police officers, teachers, doctors, and vets.  Students may be conducting interviews at home this week to find out more information about the job they chose.

Something to be aware of: I will be doing Benchmarks this Thursday to assess students on their level of reading. Please make sure your child is at school this day so that I have the opportunity to meet with every child.
