Five full days

I can't believe it's already been five full days of school!  It's crazy thinking back to last week when it was Open House and how I got to meet my students for the first time.  Now, here we are, getting into a routine, learning how to Read to Self successfully as part of our Daily Five time every day, learning about multiplication with grouping and arrays, and doing fun science projects.

One of my favorite memories from the past five days has been today during Read to Self practice time.  After discussing the routines and behaviors we established as a class of how everyone should be acting and how the classroom should feel during that time, the students got to choose their spots to sit, I sat at my back table, and we got started.  We reached our halfway time-limit goal (we're working on getting up to 20 minutes with everyone following the guidelines the whole time, and we got to 10 minutes today), it was quiet, and Julie Warren, the Nebo District Elementary Director, popped her head in for a few minutes with our principal, Mrs. Stoddard.  None of the students were disturbed by her appearance, they were all concentrating on reading their books the whole time.  Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Stoddard were very impressed.  Great job, class!
