Exploring in Math

This week the students have experimented in math using the math tools that we'll be using throughout the year--base 10 blocks (the cubes, sticks, and hundred squares), pattern blocks (squares, diamonds, hexagons, etc.), and unifix cubes (similar to Legos).  As part of their experimenting they focused on sharing and using their imagination.  Today they also decided to have a part of their focus be on the presentation of their creation.  I didn't set any limits on what they could do or make with their math tools; this week they could just play with them. And this is what resulted:

Dominoes arranged in the shape of a whale if viewed from above
