Great books for third graders

I've spent some time this summer investigating books that might appeal to 3rd graders. Since I haven't worked closely with third graders for two years, some of the newer books I am not familiar with. If I have read the book, I've put a star by it.  There are a lot of books out there and maybe these books won't be of interest, however, I hope this is a starting place for figuring out fun books to read at a third grade level.

(Note: I've also put a smiley face by the books that have been made into movies. A fun reward for reading a book all the way through--whether on your own or having it read to you--is to see the movie)
