Getting Ready for the Writing Test on Feb 26

The students have spent about four focused weeks getting ready for the DWA--Direct Writing Assessment--that all 5th graders take in the state of Utah.  The DWA is a persuasive writing test to see if students are able to use the 6 traits of writing (Ideas, Organization, Word Choice, Voice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions) to adequately create a well-put together, and articulate opinion piece.

Here are the results from the last three practice essays the students have done. They can identify their results by finding their class number.  So many of my students are growing by leaps and bounds between the different essays and I hope that they will continue to grow in confidence for when February 26 arrives and I can't whisper any hints to them.

Note: A passing score is 18/30.  30 is the highest they can receive on the practice tests and on the real tests. If you would like to see your child's practice essays, have them log in at www.utahwrite.com
